My name is Daniel Bradley Miller. I’m a professional photographer, journalist, and filmmaker from eastern Kentucky.
Since graduating from Morehead State University in 2022, I have worked as the sports editor and photographer for The Ledger Independent, a local newspaper covering seven counties in northeastern Kentucky. As the paper’s lone sportswriter and photographer, I have covered countless high school athletic events while producing daily stories and photographs for print and digital publication.
Although my career since college has been largely focused on sports journalism, that was never my intended long-term path. I majored in media production and journalism at Morehead State University, where I developed a broad range of skills across photography, journalism, television, film, and post-production.
During my time at Morehead State, I spent two years working on NewsCenter, the university’s student-produced live television news broadcast, where I learned the ins and outs of working in a broadcast television studio. I later wrote, produced, and edited two seasons of the comedy variety show 2 Dudes 1 Couch, followed by a mockumentary-style feature, 2 Dudes: The Movie!
I was also brought on as a production assistant for the feature film M30 Oxy, written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Wesley Mullins.
Alongside these projects, I worked on numerous student films and productions, as well as The Love of Yarn, a documentary produced for Kentucky Educational Television, Kentucky’s PBS affiliate. I also contributed to Jeffrey Hill’s Ryan McGillicuddy’s Small Big Band and How Hollywood Does It.
My interest in production started long before college.
Growing up, I idolized my dad, who was a drummer in a local cover band. Wanting to follow in his footsteps, I taught myself to play the drums and spent countless nights following him and his friends from gig to gig. Eventually, they made me a deal: if I helped set up and tear down the equipment, I could play a song or two at the end of the night.
What started as an excuse to get behind a drum kit turned into an education in live production. I learned how to set up and tear down audiovisual equipment quickly and efficiently, work around a tight schedule, and solve problems when things inevitably went wrong. Those are skills I’ve carried with me into starting my own band, working on film sets, producing documentaries, and covering live events.
Today, my technical skillset spans photography, journalism, video production, audio, and post-production. I have extensive experience with Adobe Premiere Pro, Audition, Photoshop, and After Effects, as well as DaVinci Resolve. I’ve also begun teaching myself 3D modeling and visual effects in Blender.
I love telling good stories. Regardless of whether those stories originated on the sidelines of a football game, or in the workshop of a life-long textile manufacturer, I believe that everyone has a story to tell, you just have to know how.
